This beautiful modern farmhouse estate, situated in the hills of Wilsonville, was a total transformation, turning a small, quaint older traditional farmhouse into a completely new and much larger modern farmhouse, complete with a pool/guest house, swimming pool, and outdoor living areas. For this project, we are taking a look at the floor-to-ceiling finished interior architecture before the final touches of furnishings and accessories are added throughout the home.
Some of the original home’s footprint remains in the west wing of the home, but the upper floor was removed to create tall, open spaces in the kitchen and great room, allowing sunlight to penetrate and breathe new life into the home, along with an expansive new east wing. We added beautiful rustic beams to the ceiling that follow the outline of the original architecture, along with wide, solid-oak plank floors throughout as a nod to the nostalgia of the farmhouse that once was.
The kitchen, graced with professional appliances that are strategically placed for total efficiency, is any chef’s dream. The crisp white and blue palette, with gold hardware and vintage sconces, brings charm to the space. The island, placed centrally between the great room and dining room, was designed to accommodate seating on three sides for large family gatherings and parties. It offers generous storage, plus a beverage cooler and refrigerated drawers.
We combined industrial details with Shaker-style cabinetry to further the modern farmhouse feel, with lightly cerused white oak cabinets and custom concrete countertops in several of the bathrooms. We then juxtaposed those elements with colorful, patterned, and textural fun tiles, giving each space its own personality. We also framed the windows in concrete in the main and guest bath wet rooms, contrasted with handmade tiles and polished nickel fixtures for a fresh, clean look. Modern light fixtures and cabinet hardware in a mix of metal tones add a touch of vintage charm to each room.
Many of the custom built-ins, especially the office/library, were designed to provide our clients with an abundance of room for their book collections and beloved objects. The blue and white marble tile added to the desk backsplash is reminiscent of the client’s wedding china, which added a special touch to the space, along with the beautiful black and gold fixtures. The ladder was retained from the original home. All in all, the home is a thoughtful blend of old and new, honoring the character of the original farmhouse while creating a fresh, personalized interior designed to last for generations.
